Long story short I just played through one (not mine) on a laid back piano/bass gig.

Me likey. Plugged into an fDeck III and that's it. Sounded great!

This is not a good thing. I now want one, or two. Or three.

Yeah they're good.
I'm surprised you got enough volume out of the FDeck. They seem to like more of a line-level signal.
Try it with something like a Headway. Great combo.

Just sold a Headway!! Doh!

We were doing background cocktail hour jazz. Not loud at all.

Yeah the FDeck is fine but just means you'll be raising the noise floor (hiss) unnecessarily.

I have the EDB-1 and also a Joe Meek 3Q. If you're like me you'll prob experiment with a few pres before settling on a favourite.

I'm definitely a mediocre URB player, but I'm going to try and get a Grace Felix. Since I started playing URB I've really grown to like "acoustic" preamps on EB: Fishman, Headway, Baggs. The Felix has stuff I can really use on EB as well as URB. At least that's what I keep telling myself!

The QSC's are just a pipe dream right now.

If you're just starting out, getting the Grace Designs Felix would likely be overkill. As an EB preamp you may find that it's "too transparent", not that's necessarily a bad thing, but it definitely different than most EQ sections sections on most amps.

Ok then, go for it. You won't be dissappointed it's the best pre amp on the market. If you have the coin, it's all you'll ever need.
