Quality vs Quantity?

Maybe 3 $500 basses
Depends what those $300 basses are. 9 of the 10 basses in the photo below cost me $300 or less. They all play and sound as good as or better than any $1,500 bass you can buy today. In fact I can't think of a single new bass in the $1,500 price range that I would trade any one of them for.
I’ll take quality. Prices are relative. As seen above, a $300 US Peavey can out perform a $600 MIM Fender.
New or used? I've been buying $300 basses my whole life, so I'd vote one quality, but I wouldn't even spend that much!
I’m liking the direction of the thread. A closer look would suggest that quality and quantity are not mutually exclusive. Looks like there are some $300 basses on par with the quality of $1500 basses. Great insight.
I've got a similar spread of Peaveys. Was your one over 300 a cirrus?
I agree with everyone so far. Quality and quantity are not exactly dependent on one another. You can buy a terrible expensive bass of low quality or a high quality low expense bass.
Love me some Peavey basses.

Some people tend towards "collector" mode. In that case, they'll likely want quantity.
Some players want/need a diverse set of instruments (a 4, a 5, a fretless), they'll likely want quantity.
Some players want to have an instrument they know inside out and can cover most everything they do, they'll likely want quality.
The good news these days the two are not mutually exclusive.

I have an '84 Yamaha BB I paid $75 for and Classic Vibe 60's Jazz I paid $150 for. I also have an American Standard I bought used with an NP4 in it for $800 and a Classic 50's Lacquer P I bought brand new. All of those are excellent quality basses regardless of price.
I have a dozen basses bought over 30 years.
Half are 1,500. The other half less. They are all awesome, but there are two I would hang onto if my life fell apart. So, yes I guess is my answer.

Quality over quantity every day
Collecting a bunch of cheap guitars never made sense to me though. To each his own but collector, to me, implies high end guitars.
