Question about Aerodynes

Ok guys n gals. I have been thinking of trying an Aerodyne. I have not been able to try one in person yet. No one or no shop in my area has one. So if I were to buy one it would be a blind (unplayed) purchase. So I want to ask all you Aerodyne players what makes them unique other than the obvious body shape? The Jazz Aerodynes are sexier than hell. However I just started to dig up pics and info on the Aerodyne P's. I understand that the P's are no longer being produced. Bummer! Not sure which to go after. Are the P's commanding big money? Any info on these unique Fenders would be appreciated. Oh and post pics of your Aeros please

I don't know anything about the P, but I love my J. Obviously it looks unique, but the bass is SO light. It's very thin, and weighs nothing. I've never had any shoulder problems. I love the tonal possibilities on the Aerodyne. The P/J combination is great. Love the smoked chrome hardware. It has a really unique sound to it. Lots of compliments.

I've actually mostly retired my Aerodyne. Just bought a Music Man SUB a few months back.

I absolutely LOVE my Aerodyne, i replaced the pickups with some SD basslines and it sounds amazing.
It weighs next to nothing and it is pretty well built.
That said, the electronics were typical of the CIJ and even the pots were replaced.
it IS my go to bass!!!!

When they were new, the flopped and so had poor resale. I think the're a find now - much like the P-bass Lyte is. For my part, I don't like the look - but they are a good bass.

I just noodled with a black one (just like in that picture above) at a GC last night. Never tried one myself and unfortunately, as with a lot of the instruments on the wall in many-a-GC, it wasn't set up so great... !

For me, it felt a little light and flimsy without enough solid fundamental in its sound. I've got a passive Warmoth J-bass along with a '79 MM Sabre at home and both are rather hefty with some rather huge sound. Whenever I try a relatively light bass, I expect it to behave accordingly, but too often a bass like that can simply lack a degree of "girth" in its sound.

I appreciated the manageable weight and rather playable layout in that Aerodyne P/J, but it sounded unremarkable and its hardware seemed pretty flimsy. I wouldn't buy one new for what they were asking, especially considering that the $180 Yamaha RBX 170 on the wall (also a P/J layout) was easily a better sounding and playing bass for me.

I got this Dolphin Grey Aerodyne last may.# other people have played it and loved the tone. I had Chunger plex it and put the new bridge on.One awsome sounding bass now dont need pickups or pots changed.

what neck does the aerodyne p have ? p or j?? it's it's got a true p bass neck im pretty sure I've decided on my next bass
