Question about fenders and SBMM

I tried a Ray34CA and an american special jazz bass yesterday at CA and I liked them both a lot.

I was wondering, can the american special cut through the mix like a ray34CA or does it just blend into the sound?

Also, besides the slimmer neck and 2band EQ, is there any other difference between the ray34 an the ray34CA?
