Question about humidity.

I live in the Mid-West. I keep my bass in the basement where now the temperature is 60 deg. and the humidity is about 65-70%. Will this damage my bass? I keep it on a bass stand. Am I better off keeping it in it's case.

Here's what I've always been told. Go down there and feel if it is comfortable. If its comfortable enough for humans, its good enough for wood. That's what I've always been told anyways.

Imho you better off keep your instrument in the case no matter how cold or humid is. After a while it becomes natural to do it AND it prevents it from more frequent neck adjustment due to change of temperature/humidity...

Is your basement a dungeon????
Unless your case is airtight, it won't make too much of a difference...

Your basement seems like a perfect environment to keep cigars though

Steady-state humidity is fine. Radical changes in humidity that last for weeks/months are bad.

60% humidity? Man I wish the humidity was low like that.
Fun times is playing in 95% humidity outdoors (and no......it wasn't raining.... seriously, the weather thing said 95% humidity.) Your fingers just slide all over.......

+1 to the "it's not the humidity level but the level of humidity changes"..... higher humidity doesn't seem to bother my basses or anyone elses I know of.

However.....it's safer in the case than on a stand. Stand just cries out "knock me over". But that's a different topic!
