Question about Jazz Basses

I just got a new Geddy Lee Jazz bass and really love it. It's the first jazz bass I've played and was wondering if there is any difference besides pick ups on the American Standard Jazz bass. Is the neck different as well? I love this neck and am wondering what if any differences the American made one has. Would it be worth having both or perhaps 2 of the same? Thanks for the advice.

The neck on the Geddy Lee is know for being very thin from front to back. Almost all other Jazz Basses will have a fatter neck.

The Geddy bass has a bound neck and the MIA bass has a rolled finger board for that broken in feeling. The MIA bass has a "C" shaped neck while the Geddy bass has a "shaved" flat neck. The Geddy comes with a BadasII bridge the MIA bass is STB. The MIA bass come with a rosewood or maple neck the Geddy in maple only. The MIA bass comes with case, wrenches, strap. cord, polishing cloth the Geddy does not. The MIA bass comes in maple or alder the Geddy bass alder only.

The MIA Jazz Bass has a superb neck as well, but like most things it's subjective so you really need to check one out yourself.

It's arguable whether the new Fender High Mass Bridge is better than the Badass fitted on the Geddy, I would like to think the Fender one is equally as good.

Both are excellent basses! The Geddy one looks very nice with the block inlays though.

Adore my Geddy and got it back when they were still like $599. The neck is different and when I first played it, my hand hurt because I had to retrain my muscles for that type of neck. I find it very comfortable now and lightning fast. It's also stable. I've heard lots of people express concern over the stability because of the thinness, but mine is a rock. It's still stock pups and since I was jealous of the Highway's series/parallel switch, I installed a DPDT push/pull pot in it to get the same thing. I've heard some people like to swap the pups, but I haven't really seen a need to. Congrats on the acquisition. I think MIJ Fender really batted this one out of the park.

Your bass is a copy of Geddy's 1972 bass that he found at a pawn shop. It had a shaved neck. The reissue's have american vintage pickups, with the bridge pickup location being closer to the bridge like his 70's model. It has vintage tuners and a badass bridge, as well as the bound and blocked neck. Early necks had actual blocks, and later necks are painted blocks. Some early necks were leftover necks from the mid 80's.
