One track mind, could not imagine different picks for different things, but hey, that's me.

This Fender 355 shape, Heavy, in the celluloid faux tortoise shell in either Fender or the identical D'Andreas, or the D'Andrea alternate in their 'Delrex' nylon material, the blue 1mm.

Although I play with a pick on 80% of the songs, I'm not serious about picks as I should.

I've always grabbed whatever was in front of me, until I bought a huge collection of picks of all shapes, size, material and thickness, in order to test and decide what are my prefered ones.

Now I know which are my favorite, I should order dozens of them and trash the others, because for the moment, most of the time I'm left with all the ones that I dislike (because I've already lost my favorite ones) :crying:.

Anyway, thank you for posting the thread, it reminds me to take care of this issue.

LOL. I've just asked my daughter about the great picks she gave me for my birthday, because they're my favorite and I want to buy more. Unfortunately she bought them during our hollidays in Japan, she has no clue how thick they are. So I have to buy sereval picks of different thickness untill I find the equivalent.

Big triangle 1.14mm and Pickboy Luminous Classic 1.20mm. Big triangle when I want to play hard and get the "picky" tone, Pickboy was the first picks I ever really tried so they probably have some kind of sentimental value to me. They also feel good in my hand. In my opinion, some song are easier to play with a pick and the change in tone is strongly preferrable. I do play with my fingers the majority of the time though.

I use a vast array of picks. I tried Dunlop Tortex and Ultex in all gauges, most of their Primetone picks, some exotic ones, and their grippy nylon picks, I even have a full set of Graph-Tech picks.

And whenever I play with a pick, I punch myself in the face to remind myself that bassists don't use picks. I do use picks when playing acoustic or classic guitar, though, and there I prefer lighter gauges, around 1.2 mm or less if strumming would be too hard on the strings.

If I need a more selective attack, I play with my fingernail, I prefer that to using a pick.

When I was young, I used a pick on bass, but for the last....40 plus years, whenever I try using a pick, I hate the sound. My basses are pretty bright sounding affairs, and I develop realtively hard callouses naturally, so they sound articulate enough with fingers, but with a pick....yuck. Just my reaction - nothing wrong if it works for you.

I've gravitated to three different picks for most stuff, a basic medium weight for most songs, a jazz III if I'm playing anything technical down towards the bridge, and then a heavy 1.2mm one if I'm going to be downstroking 8th notes for the next 5 minutes.
