Question about recording?

given the records date as 1971, maybe a Fender Rhodes Key Bass ?

they used to be somewhat common before synths arrived. Hamond organs also had bass pedals that were pretty hard to distinguish from a muted electric bass in a mix too, but those would have been referred to as bass pedals or just part of the organ part.

Just looking at the Wiki page for that album, Donny sure had a lot of great bass talent on those sessions; Willie Weeks, Phil Upchurch, Louis Satterfield, Marshall Hawkins. Great set of players.
