Hi,
At one point, I due my ignorance on a subject, bought a couple of sets of counterfeit strings. They were quite obviously not what they were sold as, but they had their pluses. One thing, on the package they listed hex cores, but the actual strings were actually rounds. Since then, I have tried a handful of "real" strings, and I could not get to that scooped tone. Also, these strings were more even and did not get boomy in the 12-15 frets. I was kind of digging that sound.
I do not want to get counterfeit strings as that is wrong, but was wondering, is the round core can have that effect on the tone. All other strings I have tried are hex core. Besides the round cores, the strings were also quite rough and felt as of the wrapping was coarser or at least not as polished... Perhaps that is also the contributing factor.
Anyway, I googled round core strings and GHS came up as that. Whomever tried those, are they more even up and down the neck by any chance, maybe, scooped as well, rough maybe (that I can do without)?
