Question about warwick basses(slapping)

Im considering getting a warwick, a thumb model actually.

I haven't played one in person but I have heard stories of people having a hard time popping on it since the gap between the strings and the body is too much.

I can relate to that, since when I removed my jazz bass' pickguard, it was definitely much harder to slap due to my index finger digging in too much. It felt more natural with the pickguard on.

I've owned a couple of Thumbs. It's all personal preference but you will probably be able to adjust to the difference in feel (greater distance between the body and string. Are you thinking bolt-on or neck-through? I personally don't like the neck-throughs for slap because they are 26 fretters and I already prefer 21 to 24 for slap.

I've owned both the NT and the BO. The NT's extra fret area gets in the way of slapping.

Back to the OP's inquiry: The distance from string to body on a Thumb is only marginally different than, say, that of an everyday Fender-type bass. I found the BO very natural for slapping. As stated above, however, the NT didn't really float my boat.

I enjoy slapping quite a bit on my Thumb NT. There is extra spacing so if it's a deal breaker I'd say no, but I honestly think it's a very easy adjustment.
