These basses are marketed as rock basses but are they any good for funk, both finger as well as slap style? Hypothetically, if the EBMM Stingray is a 10, on a scale of 1 to 10, where would these Yamaha bb's rank?

Question about Yamaha bb424/1024/2024

Great pickups on the 1024x I have at least. It's a PJ-configuration so take that into account. Stingray is different. A jazz bass is also different, but totally awesome for slick slap tone.
As with most things in life, I'd ignore the marketing and just try one. The PJ configuration is very versatile and you'll be able to get a lot of usable tones from one of those basses.
I have a 2013 BB425X and it sounds and plays fantastic. The neck feels great. The pickups are very versatile. I actually may have to sell it sadly just bought another bass.
