Question: How to darken a fretboard ?

I've got a fretted bass that has a medium toned maple fret board that I would like to darken the wood to be a near ebony color.
Do you have any suggestions as to the products and method I should use ?

Dyes and similar products are intended for unfinished materials, as yours is already built, I don't think there will be a simple cost-effective solution. You might try paint? If I was going to attempt this, I'd probably remove the frets and the nut, sand the board down with a radius block until it's bare wood, and then try with dye. Could be really blotchy in the end though, and you still need a refret after...
