question on ibanez SR basses

I played an sr 300 at guitar center and i was blown away by the thin neck and the slap tone. I was wondering if there is any way the lower line sr's (300-400) could play passive, or if any of the higher modles(500 +) could play passive either, or if your battery dies are you just up S*** creek without a paddle?

I had an SR800 for years. IIRC, the battery dies you are out of luck, but they last a long time (months!) if you make sure to unplug the bass when you aren’t using it. I always kept a couple of spare batteries in my little tool box with all the other spare stuff I needed.

Only the most expensive Ibanez bases have a passive/active switch.

If you're worried about the battery dying on you during a gig, I suggest you either put in a new one before each gig or buy one of those small battery testers (not sure of the cost) and use it right before you start the gig.

Taking along a spare battery on a gig is a must. Taking 2 is not a bad idea becuase there are rare instances where a new battery is defective (Not a problem though if you have a battery tester.)
