Question on Traveler Bass TB-4P

I have a question. I bought a second hand TB-4P bass recently. When I tried to press down on the tone control to get the boost, clean or distortion feature, it didn't work at all (or have the feeling in the knob of pressing). This isn't a discontinued model (like the red or black). It is the sunburst model. So, my question is, did this model always come with this feature? I can't seem to get any data on this question. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Thank you for the reply. I kind of figured that was the case. I saw a YouTube demo of the bass that was done 11 years ago. No mention of that feature. Also, the gig bag is the older style bag. I also noticed that the model I have uses a 9 volt battery (as opposed to two AAA batteries). Follow up question. Are the electronics inside the same? I mean; if the battery dies, does the 1/4" Jack stop working? (Like the newer models?).

I have one of the early black ones, and the output jack still works even if you remove the 9V battery altogether. I believe the battery only powers the headphone amp in the older versions, and that the bass itself is a straight-up passive instrument.

Hi! Thank you both for the replies! I watched your video. I was wondering what amplifier were you using? Also, did you ever change the strings? If so(and I'm assuming you did), what was your experience with changing strings? Did you ever change the tuners like some people did? Thanks!

I've changed strings many times. There is absolutely no need to swap out the tuners. Because the strings go round to the back of the bass, the string tension is distributed between the tuners and the rollers at the bottom of the body, and the existing tuners, while originally intended for guitars, are more than adequate, and work well.
