Question: Squier Precision Standard V?

Apparently, it was made in the early 2000s,
but I’ve never seen one in the wild.
So I’m trying to wrap my head around it.

Is it a bird?
Is it a plane?
Is it a Jazz?
Is it a Precision?

By that I mean what does it sound like?
And I wonder why Squier named it "Standard",
it's definitely not a standard Precision.

There’s one in my area for sale but the price seems a bit high,
at least to me, because I saw one on reverb a $100 cheaper.

I'm not hating on it, because I think it's kindda sexy.
And would be even more so with a mint PG against that SB finish.
But wouldn't that have to be custom-made?

A search for these on TB didn’t yield very much,
so I named the title accordingly.

Can anyone speak on its behalf?

Standard series was the precursor to the VM series. All made in Indonesia I believe, and on par with the VMs imo.

I chalk the name up to the general guideline that the body shape dictates the name, not necessarily the pickups. (For example Aerodyne Jazz, Blacktop J and P, Mark Hoppus Jazz.)

Bass on left began life as a Squier P V, it was originally green. Stock pickups didn't capture B string. P bass string spacing at nut makes for a beefy neck, but it's a great playing stable neck. I removed material on the body horns, added Hipshot hardware, SD passive soapbars, CTS pots, refinished the neck and rattle canned the body.

Here's mine that i bought new in 2000, sparkle Sherwood green. I love it! I combines the ergonomics of the P-bass, which i prefer over a Jazz bass, but with Jazz bass electronics. The electronics stink, frankly, but I run it through a Sadowsky pre-amp pedal and it sounds dynamite!

The neck is the best part of this instrument. Wide, flat, and thin - moreso than any other Fender bass I've played. Slap tones just fall out of this machine.

I passed it along to my son, but he let me visit with it over the weekend.

Edit: Weight is only nine pounds - I believe the body is made of Agathis wood. Also, the overall build quality is very high, and I've used it live many times.

Greetings from the North,

How much would I pay? Dunno because I've never found one yet. For the last few years I've entertained the thought of having a Jazz set up in a lite weight Precision body and this Squier might just fit the bill. Recently I just converted a heavy (13.5 lbs) Vintage Modified Jazz 5 by acquiring a very lite Affinity body and shifting all the VM parts, including the shaved recontoured VM neck, over to it. Now I have an 8.5 lbs Jazz bass that I'm happy with but I still would consider one of these if I could actually play one.

Yeah, you do see them very often,
so I'm trying to find out how desirable they are here on TB.
I've only seen mods in the configuration....057912
