Questions about Bass Microsynth

I have some questions about the EHX Bass Microsynth for all of us who survived the rapture.

1. Is it true you have to have a separate power source, and cannot just daisy chain it?

2. Can it function as an octave pedal, synthesizer, and envelope filter all separate from each other? Just seems to good to be true.

3. (Bonus question [and yes I did try the classifieds]) Is anyone selling one?

1. I daisy chained it with 3 more pedals using a 1-spot without any problems.

2. Yes, no, yes. It has octave up/down, attack delay, square wave and a sweep filter. It does seem too good to be true IME, because it murders your dry signal AND its wife and kids. It can make a wide variety of cool sounds, but it isn't a particularly good octave or distortion or envelope pedal.

3. No, I sold mine a month ago.

1. Yes.

2. Octave- yes: Synth- yes: Envelope filter- not exactly.

The filter is a triggered filter. When you hit it with a strong enough signal (strength of signal controlled by the trigger slider) the filter travels from its start frequency to its stop frequency at a predetermined rate. Similar sounding to an envelope filter but a slightly different function. The problem with using it as only an octave is the filter section is always on, so even if you have the trigger set so the filter never triggers, you are at the mercy of the stop frequency setting for the tone of the octave.

Apparently there's some phase issue but I never tried it so I'm no expert. Personally I was always a fan of the legacy 24v model, and I just don't like the new XO one. It doesn't sound as good - I would much rather have a 24v model with a ****-sounding bypass that sounds amazing when it's turned on (and warmed up).

The octaver definitely works well on its own. The filter is voiced in such a way that it works best on the +1 and the 'square wave' voices, so on a plain bass signal it doesn't do much, so no, I would say it's not great as simply a filter for bass, no.

Love this pedal. I can't wait until they make this thing with presets! They should do it just like the POG2, SMM w/Hazarai, Ring Thing, etc. Would be cool if the sliders moved when you change presets too :bassist:
