*Questions about ordering an Amp..Please Help me OUT!*

I was wondering what anyone with experience would think is safer: Ordering an amp of MusiciansFriend.com and adding a 2-3 year coverage. Or ordering it form a store? whats safer?

and i plan on getting a GK Backline 110 (opinions would be great)

Why get the 2-3 year coverage? GK warranty is 2 years on electronics and 1 year on the speaker. That should cover you against factory defects. If you operate it properly it should last you way longer than 2-3 years. And if you read the fine print there are many situations under which you would not receive coverage under the 2-3 year plan.

I'm not a believer in this warranty most of the time. Search around here. GK is VERY good at dealing with problems. An additional warranty through MF would be MF stupid, IMO.

Extended warranties are legalized gambling. You're betting the thing you're buying will break, and they're betting it won't. I always refuse the extended warranty, and if I get too much pressure, I nix the deal. I am way ahead of the game not getting the warranty. Yeah, I got burned once or twice, but I'm still way ahead of what would I would have spent in extended warranties.

+1 on extended warranty's worth....

Reminds me of Sears appliances...have bought them for years and always get the "big squeeze" for extended warranty. Never had a major appliance fail. Ext warranty is a profit booster.

Don't get the extra coverage offered by musician's friend. Same reasons as above.

If you have a local, small business, store, in which to people know or recognize you, always good to buy from them, even if they don't have it, they can order it. You help them stay in business, and if you keep buying from them, they'll be kind in return. I got a 'monday special' on a speak-on cable and got what I think I found out later was about 80% off (changing the price from 'never going to get this' to 'I'm tempted to buy two'). He made up the special on the spot because me and my family were repeated buyers and my brother and I had taken lessons there.

If the whole small business thing isn't an option, go for musician's friend. I bought an amp off them once, no problems at all. But try and look for a % off coupon. Sign up for the mailing list and such.

I worked at Circuit City and got paid more for selling a $149 5year service policy than I did for selling a $799 TV. The store profit margin on the extended warranty was between 55% & 75%.
I would not recommend purchasing an extended warranty.

Yeah, all the workers at these kind of stores are so obviously trying to push the warranty for a commission. One guy at best buy even tried using the jedi mind trick.
Him: "So, you are getting the warranty.
Me: No, I'm not."
Him: "You're going with the warranty. "

This went on for awhile
