Questions about Yamaha TRBX Series

The brown 504 is really, really dark. In the store it looked black to me. Better lighting reveals a brown....

Hey gang. I put together a little recording of my TRBX with a track I found online last night. I had an emergency page for work around 1am and it seems those are the only times I can grab my bass to play for a minute, let alone record. (other than gigging and rehearsal) Anyhow, I favored the back p/u slightly and gave it a slight boost of bass and mids in active mode. It's not my best playing ever but I thought it came out alright for being in a sleepy haze!!
Hope this gives a little bit of a feel for these basses.

I'm an Ibanez guy myself. however I am curious about the trbx305 and the trbx505. I would like to try them out if I ever get a chance to go to a guitar center or a sam ash.

Okay I've recently went to a guitar center earlier today and I've tried out the yamaha trbx304 and the trbx505. they both sounded pretty cool. the trbx304 has some great sounds. the 5-way tone switch gives this bass some character. even though when I played the bass, it did sounded like it needed a neck adjustment, I think it sounded pretty cool. as for the trbx505, it sounds totally awesome. I like the idea of the active and passive switch. I noticed that when it's in passive mode, it sounds pretty punchy. and when it's in active mode, it sounds as warm and versatile as an Ibanez sr505. there were some reviews on these basses saying that it lacks some highs, but when I tried them out, it sounds like it's got plenty of highs as wells as lows. the active electronics are pretty solid, the eq controls are pretty versatile, and it's suitable for any genre of music. including metal. now that I played both those basses and have an Idea on how they sound, I am thinking about purchasing either the trbx305 or the trbx505. depending on my budget. either one, I am definitely interested in buying a yamaha trbx bass. I definitely would recommend these basses.

Just wondering if any Trbx 504 and 505 players have changed the pickups or preamp and what kind of results they got? I must say I'm not that big fan of the tone I'm getting from my 505, its not bad by any means...but its kind of sterile and lacks something. So I have been thinking to change the pickups, but since its the narrower type the options are pretty pricey(Norstrand, Bartolini, Aguilar).

I Love my Yamahas..... The original BBN5A Black W/ an NE-1 DI is my goto 5 string for church, thru the sound board. The TRBX305 is any gig, anytime. I use an EBS Stanley Clark WAH, MXR 108s EQ and either Fender Downtown Express or TECH21 NYC Bass Fly Rig. Love the 5 position switch and active pickups.

My goto 5 passive is always the old BBN5A pictured...I needed a little more punch for R&B, Funk and Jazz so I spent many hours comparing TRBX 305, 505 and 605, I purchased and am extremely pleased with the TRBX
305. I did not like the sound or tone of the other two. I am not surprised, Yamaha has always designs and manufactures their low end instruments to compete with other higher priced competitors. You choose.
