I am on quite a tight home recording budget of just as many people. I used to have a fresh copy of Acid Music Studio 7, but my old computer crashed, the disc and more than likely activation code as well, have been lost. I am currently running Audacity. I can't stand how it's setup. That or I don't know how to use it. Either way, I would like to know if there is another free program that I can download without trashing my computer with viruses. I would prefer something that has a tempo based grid like Acid. For those of you who don't know what I mean by this, Acid had a setup where you had to set the tempo before you began recording, (you didn't have to set up a click-track) and it was set up kind of fruity loops rhythm. There was a thick line for the downbeat and smaller lines for the sub-divisions. As I said before if you have any suggestions for software to try for this please let me know. I have done some research on various programs, but I would like to know what programs others use, and your opinions on others.
Now as far as drums, I have used a fruity loops demo in the past to get a drum track. (I would gladly record live drums, but in order to get a good sound out of that, I'd have to get a good number of decent mics and a mixer.) I have heard of software called rhythm rascal that would make tempo changes and time signature changes easy which is something I've struggled with on fruity loops.
Lastly, I record with a Digitech RP300 guitar processor with head phones to mic input. (yes even for bass). I have never had too much of a problem with noise before, but for some reason when I record on audacity with the new computer, There's a a lot of noise. It's not really white noise, but It has kind of a gargley sound going underneath. I've had this kind of sound when I put on too much of some noise reducing effect on a track with some Magix noise reduction software I used to have. At first I thought it was just Audacity, but it only does it with the processor.
Any feedback on any of this would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
