quick question about ohms

I tried out for a band today. I brought my all tube peavey vb 3 amp that I usually run through my mesa 2x12 at 8 ohms. They has an ampeg 8x10 there so i just plugged my amp in the cab but I left my amp at 8 ohms and forgot to switch it to 4. Will it be ok?

Most tube amps are pretty tough, and Peaveys are among the toughest. I've inadvertently run my old Classic 50 head at 8 ohms without switching it for an entire show and never missed a beat. The newer Class D tubers are probably even more robust.

I would never do it on purpose though. :D

If you do it again your flux capacitors might fire any you'll never know what year it is! :D

As usual, our Mr. B has it right! :)

That made me laugh, next time ill remember to set it at 4 ohms with the ampeg. But man did that thing sound incredible with the ampeg 8x10. The peavey vb3 was voiced to sound the best through a sealed 8x10 imo. The tone totally rocks :bassist: I wish I had a car that would allow me to but an 8x10 :hmm:

I'm always fighting with my computer's spelling checker. It has a mind of its own and inserts words that I didn't type. Then I have to go back and replace them.

Sometimes I miss them and have to fix the post post post.

This type of impedance mismatch on a tube amp is always better than the opposite condition...like setting the amp on 4 ohms and running an 8 ohm cab. What you did is pretty much harmless except that it affects the tone.

The 212 Mesa is nice, but it's two 12s vs. eight 10s. Certain you did hear a difference. Not exactly a fair fight ;) .

If you ever have the opportunity to play through a 215 (or two 115s) w/Eminence 3015s or Faital Pro 15PR400s, or (even more so) a 2x15/2xmidrange w/Eminence 3015LFs & a couple 18Sound 6ND410s or Faital Pro M5N8-80s, you might find another new level of incredible :bassist: .

The Fridge is a perfect cab for certain genres of music. It's almost untouchable for some players ( Hi Jimmy :) ).

Other configurations and some of the newer cabinet designs are also worth checking out. The Ampeg 4x10HE is , as I understand, basically half of a fridge. The same sound, though less of it, in a smaller package.

here is the pic I took from the practice
