I make custom leather guitar/bass straps.
A friend of mine asked me to make him a custom quiver.
Now, I'll be honest... I did not even know what a quiver was.

What is a general size/dimension of a quiver?
How does the top stay open in case you need to get it in there quickly?

Thanks in advance for ANY replies

my quiver is the length of the tail piece with leather ties that attach to the stings at the top and the metal at the bottom. Might be best to get measurements form the bass it will be attached too.

it is stiff leather so it doesn't ever fold close, however after a few years a hole appeared at the bottom from the bow being dropped in the same place all the time. So I would suggest some reinforcing along the bottom seam. (I used black duct tape to match the quiver colour)

I've made a few from 8 oz veg tanned. It can be dyed or oiled to any color. I prefer the length to be 14" which is plenty long to hold the bow. Width is optional. A piece 8-10" wide, folded over and sewn works fine. A piece 1.5-2" wide by 3" folded over to 1.5" sewn to the top keeps the mouth open. Google Mike Weatherly quiver which are sold by David Gage for ideas. Mine use some of his ideas but are nowhere near as elaborate. I can email pics. It will make sense.

DIY bow quiver.
I think my design is narrower and more rigid than some of the commercially available quivers. ( "that's what she said...").
There is a rubber "stop" at the bottom to protect the tip.
Thanks,
don kasper

Okay, goaded into contributing. 1) I don't use a bow quiver but I do play many heads and solos arco. Currently, I set my bow on a table when I'm not using it. Lynn Seaton, possibly the most accomplished modern bassist, although he definitely has wonderful competition from John Goldsby, Christine McBride, and Edgar Meyer, among others, uses gun holsters and has for several, if not many, years. He'll warn you to scrub the oil from the interior before you place your bow in it though, because the oil ruins the horse hair. For a serious bassist, Lynn, John, Chris and a few others prescribe THE path to success, IMO.

Man, oh man, I like that!! If it's not inappropriate, about how much would you charge someone who isn't a friend for something like that?

What's the best bow quiver for traditional country?
