Rack Case Dilemma

I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for this thread, but it's worth a shot!

Right now, I'm trying to sell off a 3-space rack case which fits just my amp, a Gallien-Krueger 2001RB (3 spaces). I want to get a larger case to hold a rack tuner and a power conditioner. My original thought was, "get a 6-space, problem solved." But then I thought about getting a rolling rack...

Here's where I'm at now. I can get either a Gator 4-space POWERED rolling rack at a really good price (I found an amazing deal at ~$150 + shipping... they're normally $215), or a 5-space SKB rolling rack (~$120 + shipping) and a separate power conditioner.

Either will have just enough space for everything, and it's all the space I need. The 2001RB is front and rear-vented, so no issues with cooling there.

Which would you recommend? Is the Gator power center reliable, in your experience? Would I be better off with an inexpensive Furman? Is SKB really more durable than Gator?

I recommend not getting a power conditioner. ;)

I had a 6-space Gator rack with amp, "conditioner," and tuner and I ditched all that in favor of a power strip, my old handheld tuner, and a simple rack bag. I won't be going back to racks in the near, and possibly far, future.

As far as SKB v. Gator, I've owned both and preferred the Gator. SKB is a little more sturdy, but the Gator was just nicer. Less Big-Chunk-O-Plastic, more professional-looking equipment.

I do like the style of both, but you're right - the Gator does come off looking as a little more professional. The 3-space I've got now is a Gator shallow rack, so in terms of looks, they're very similar, and that's fine with me :smug:

However, the lifetime warranty on the SKB and durability reputation is what has me stuck on my choice.

I have the SKB 5-space rolling rack...

if you need 5-spaces, get it.. I have my power conditioner, my Amped SCT 3-Pro and my GK backline 600 racked in there, and if I had to actually carry that rack otherwise, my already sore back would hate me more than normal.

It looks a bit cheesy? yes.. but the wheels are worth it.

oops.. I didn't see that the gator was rolling, too...

In that case, I'm not sure *L* I have had very good luck with the SKB. It will also fit some extra cables and such in back when you are packing up, which I find helpful.
