Rack Setup?

The 8 space does get old I run an Ampegsvt4, rack tuner, sonic maximizer, a 2 space drawer with a few tools and strings to fix things on the fly, and a wireless in my last space which i hardly ever use cause it seems to change my tone but i keep in the rack so it doesn't get broken.

I have a 6 space with a GK 1001RB-II. I leave the next 2 slots open to allow as much as as possible to circulate. Above that, I have a Sennheiser wireless and a power conditioner.

Thanks for the excellent advise. Lots of grat opinions, and I think you all might have steered me away from a compressor. I saw some pretty neat videos on Youtube where the guy used one to his advantage and the sound was great, but it does seem like a lot of work if I constantly need to change the settings.

Might jump down to a 6U: amp head (2u), wireless(1), tuner (1), power (1), a 1U drawer with tools and strings?

I've been there - done that. It gets tiresome really quickly!! I started with a 12 unit rack case. Shortly after, that got whittled down to a 6 unit. That didn't last too long either. dropped to a pair of 4 unit ones. Now I have just one 4 space. With a Carvin BX1500, a Korg tuner and a Carvin power strip it's a two finger lift. Oh and don't even think of installing a rack drawer unit. Great idea having everything in one case but the reality is that the 2 unit drawers weighed more than my lead sled power amp! Pulled them out and they're still in my garage.

My main rig is a 10 space SKB. Now, before folks say that is too large ( I could condense it to a smaller rack), I bought it with the intention of having a switching rig.

I my rack currently is a power conditioner, a Trace Elliot GP12X, a Korg DTR-1 tuner, a BBE, and a Crown Powerbase 2. I have a Rocktron Patchmate new in the box. I also used to have a TC Electronic rack multieffects unit.

My intent was to get some type of tube preamp to A/B with the Trace, be able to drop my BBE and other effects in and out of loops, and do it all from a programmable MIDI controller.

Some may say overkill, and I might agree to an extent. I like the ability to cover a lot of different sounds on the fly, and eventually I hope to finish this rig. Life has overtaken the finances though, but I am on the lookout for a nice, warm, tubey preamp. A nice Alembic or maybe a Demeter comes to mind.
