Radial JDI question

I am considering getting a tube amp that does not have an internal DI. I was considering the Radial JDI since you can connect it after the amp to get the tube amp mojo sent to the board. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this DI, and opinion on how they send their signal to FOH. The head is an Orange AD200B.

No, actually, the JDI will accept an input from the speaker output of an amp, and will send a line level output to the FOH board or recording device. It's not a load bank tho' do you do have to drive a speaker load to avoid damage to the amp.

I stand corrected. I didn't see that second pad so if can handle speaker output. Have you heard one of these in that situation? With all that padding I wonder if it sounds muffled?

I've never done this with mine, since I don't use tube amps. However, there was a recent thread about this (I can't remember the name of it... I think it was buried in a general 'which DI do you recommend' thread. While most LOVE the JDI as a traditional, high quality passive direct box, there were a few posts saying the padded speaker thing is 'close but no cigar'... since much of that classic tube amp grind comes also from the sealed box 10's that many use with them. That's my recollection.. hopefully the OP can find those posts with a search.

According to the JDI manual, when using the speaker pad..."a low-pass roll-off circuit is engaged that mimics the sound of a 12" speaker cabinet". It stands to reason that it won't likely sound exactly the same as the speakers in your rig. And you've got to have the speakers hooked up anyway, so why not just mic them?
