Ramones sound

Hey there I know a few Ramones tunes and I wanted to try to achieve their sound.
It sound pretty good just straight into amp but I'm wondering to put light or heavy distortion. And what kind of strings would be best.thanks

One thing I've learned about getting the Ramones sound is always do downstrokes only!
