Randy Tico

Just saw this guy in Menasha at the jazz fest. Great playing and enjoyed his tone. Anybody else like what this guy does?

Oh YEAH!!! He was around a lot in the late 70's early 80's. He sounded more like Jaco, than Jaco did!! Great sound too! I saw him with Airto and Flora Purim, w/ Ric Marrotta on drums! Killin"! He also played in an incredible horn fusion band... Google Tale of the Whale... it may come up

I can't believe there is only one Tico thread on TB! Randy is simply the man. His Matrix stuff is top notch (I really need to transcribe the horn stuff on King Weasel Stomp). Innovating the 6er as we speak. A true professional.

Just heard some tracks of Randy playing with Simon Phillips on a soon to be released CD. Awesome.

I met Randy in 1981 when I was working for John Hawk who made a couple of basses for Randy. He is one of the kindest and most humble guys you will ever know, and a mind-blowing fretless player. He was and still is THE bassist in the Santa Barbara area.

I have Harvest (Pablo Records) on LP...would love to see a disc or digital download. Back cover has a shot of the band, Tico with a PJ Fender(?).

I have Tale Of The Whale on disc. Love it.
