My wife and I enjoyed a rare treat last night..RARE EARTH.
Rare Earth played Georgia Fair at Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday night. Sound was EXCELLENT; clear vocals. Well balanced. Not too loud, not boomy. P A : Board was [ 56] ch analog. Speakers were a mix of EV array with Bayer (2) powered double 18 subs each side. Engineer was "Woody". Great guy, EXCELLENT sound engineer.
Band was awesome too. Bass player, Randy played a 4-string Fender Precision. Sounded like flats; mostly played with a pick. Amp was Ampeg S V T. Don't know if backline equipment was provided or not. I was disappointed with the S V T; a couple of times it gave unwelcome[ to my ears'] distortion when he dug in hard. Guitarist used Strat with gold hardware; Marshall with 4x12; single cab. Sounded great.
Again; one of the best live mixes I have heard in a looong while. Pretty rare treat also to see a performance as well as typical Fair events, in that admission was $7 each plus $5 parking.
Same engineer, Woody, handles the knobs and faders tonight when Starship plays. We are getting ready to go to tonights show. If Starship does not provide their own engineer, Woody will be at the boards tonight.
