RAT question.....

Believe me, I am aware of Ryan's work, and I was hoping he'd chime in on thise thread. For me it's just simpler to be able to grab this one off of craigslist since it's in the town I work in tomorrow, and see if I like the flavor. If it's something I really dig, but would rather have the improvements FUZZROCIOUS offers, I'll probably end up with a Rat Tail in the near future.....

I prefered the sound of stacking two regular proco rat2's into each other better then using a turbo rat myself. They used to make a double rat rack unit that allowed stacking the two one into the other or seperate switching for those who preferred switching between two diff rat sounds. The current Deucetone rat pedal being the modern version of it. A 6 band or more eq after the rats for best sound tweaking lows thru highs with bass guitars imo.

I use a Turbo one and Im very pleased. But the bass loss is huge imo. So I always have a Boss Equaliser pedal running after it, so I have a really nice fat/growly sound. Using it without any Eq or boost sounds cheap imo.

Interesting, I have the exact same problem. I use a turbo rat all the time and love the awesome 'GRRRRGGRGRGRRRGGR' sound it makes, but hate the lowendloss. Just this evening on rehearsal my drummer (of all people) suggested your solution, of running an eq after it.

So how does that work for you? Because I didn't think it would, as in my mind you can't mix something back in once it's been lost. But if you've had some good results with this, it might be interesting for me to pick up an eq somewhere...

I have a Turbo Rat without LM308 chip and a Vintage Reissue with the LM308 and although I really want to use the Bigbox - it just doesn't sound as good as the Turbo Rat IMO. I blend them both with an Xotic X-Blender. The Turbo just seems to have much more presence - the Reissue sounds thin in comparison to my ears.

I was lucky enough to chat to Brian Cook last weekend and he persuaded me I need to try a Rat Tail - so prob going to give that a go as soon as I have the pennies. :)

Ive modded a juggernaut Rat(New one). Beside the ic and Tone control the dirt part is the same circuit like a r.g. Keen traced Rat from 89. Changed ic and some caps for the tonecontrol. Kicks the juggernaut in a new Dimension.

If interested I can do some recording.
