I'm with you on the "if the Rays sweep, that means the Red Sox are the second best team in baseball" bandwagon. The Rays certainly have the talent and the pitching to do that, but I don't like the idea that that would put them in the same category as the '04 or '07 Red Sox.

Get over it. You guys can't dominate every year.

I agree with your prediction but I am also interested in your thoughts about the chances that the Rays can build up their fan base. I could see how it would be hard for someone like yourself whose main rooting interest is in the same division; but do the Rays pick up fans who may have moved to Tampa/St. Pete from National League cities or AL Central or AL West cities?

Are native Floridians starting to embrace the team? What more do they have to do to get fannies in the seats and eyeballs watching their telecasts?

It's been my observation that most Tampa fans and that's including the Bucs fans, are fair weather fans, nobody liked the Bucs when they were crappy, blackout conditions applied to the games for many many years. The Rays fans are just the same. They (the people) wouldn't go to the games when they were losing all the time, talking bad about the team etc. So the better they do the more people around here will fill the seats and embrace them as their own. It makes me sick actually.

The only "true" Rays fans I've seen have predominantly been kids or people that were born or raised here from an early age. Some, had a favorite team in the NL, like the Braves, and when Tampa got the team made the switch.

I find it really funny that when I go to the Yankees/Rays games down here that 90% of the stadium is cheering for the Yankees. Its almost the same when the Mets come into town too, yet when other teams within and outside the division/league come into town its quite different.

Guilty as charged. First the Patroits lose a game and then the Red Sox fail to come back from a 3-1 deficit - what's this world coming too, I can't take it anymore, arrrghghh.

Well, I guess I don't have to worry about a Rays sweep anymore. Could the Phillies sweep?

I doubt it. The Rays pitching looked pretty damned good.

Yeah -- I felt the same way when I was spending some time in Orange County in 2002 and the Angels were facing the SF Giants in that Worlds Series. Still though, a good game is always fun to watch.

I have no real interest in baseball anymore, but I am going to watch game three on Saturday. I want to see Jamie Moyer pitch. It took him 20 years to get to the WS. I'm really happy for him. He is a class act.

I have to say, as an Astros fan, watching BOTH of our former closers play (Lidge and Wheeler) is mildly painful. Why couldn't they produce that kind of results here? Lidge was a complete bum last season, and now he's better than ever.

came in with alot of momentum against the oldest flipping man in baseball (second oldest to start a WS), and instead, costly mental errors handed the game to the phils, who honestly still havent figured out how to bring RISP home.

but awesome to see howard crawl back onto the board w/ a homer no less. thankful, there was no need tonite for the lidge. and, who says you need a 95mph fastball to show up to the series? big ups to old man moyer.
