razor blade as a wood (cabinet) scraper

Probably well known to the more experienced builders ... but today I discover how well a razor blade works for scraping wood to remove small defects. Great for smoothing out the last bit of difficult tear-out after first knocking it down via other means.

It also had an eerily hypnotizing effect on me. Very relaxing. drool

I paid a fairly large sum of money to attend a two-week course on building acoustic guitars about 12 years ago. It was worth every penny but the greatest value was in the little details like using a razor blade as a scraper and the little things you can do that offer even more ways to use them.

You can put a single or multiple layers of masking tape on the ends leaving only the center of the blade exposed. You can actually bend the blade a little. It'll scrape wood, bone or finish. You can clamp or superglue a block to one to create a side scraper of a measured or limited length. ...And they're cheap.

Have you got a full sized cabinet scraper? They can be quite handy... Then you can fall over the line into scraper planes, or not...

I made one out of putty knife using a burnisher on it. It works well, but only for a while. Either I am not good at making the lip or the material is too soft because it quickly needs to be redone.
