Re; neck thru

Schecter Stiletto Studio 5

Price is right new or used. Neckthrough. And very well built basses.

Just depends if you like the EMGhz pickups in them. If not, you can always gut the pickups and put other EMG's, Bartolini's, Nordstrands, or in my case custom Kent Armstrongs and Aguilar OBP'3.

Yep. What he said.

Peaveys too! Mine is neck through.

I personally prefer neck through sound and aesthetics, but I am always afraid of damaging them, so I generally practice or screw around with my bolt ons. I gig (carefully) with my neck through.

Interesting. I do know it's still kind of a crap shoot on Ebay. Even an expert can end up with something they didn't bargain for.
For instance, maybe the seller didn't mention that one of the frets has worked loose a bit or is higher than the rest....oh so bad.

Then you end up with a problem no matter what you do to solve it, it usually ends up something that makes you wish you never go into this !!! I know, I've been there on stuff that I am very schooled on.

But, thats the risk you take. I've been very lucky on Ebay both as a seller & a buyer. I ask questions a lot.

Vroom:
Maybe I should consider my guesstimate needs some re-thinking. I've seen a few go for $249 to $349.

However, therin lies the possibility of problems. We'll see how it goes.

Anyways, thanks for the things to consider.
Regards, Dave

Used Carvins might be available on the high end of your price range. Neck through Peaveys, as suggested earlier, would also be a good idea.

Man, I just gotta say that I am very pleased with my entry level Peavey Millenium BXP-4. It stays in tune/intonation. Sounds ok and looks very nice. Also, the neck is slim and easy for me to reach all the places on it with my fingers.
I did notice that the strings are a bit off center.

That is to say I believe the bridge to be off a bit.
There is more distance (from the string to the edge of the neck) on the E than on the G string.

I can only explain it as being a misalignment of the bridge.

I am going to look at a few Peaveys tonight on Ebay.

As usual, everyone here is a big help.
Thanks, Dave

TL-5 can be had for $280-600

They are the secret in 5ers... I've owned probably 20 over the years.. they'll knock the socks off any botique I own.

Quality is much more consistant than the Ibanez name.

Both of these sold for under $500 on the bay (not mine).. just searching history.

In the early 90s these were selling at the $2k budget.. no stores carried them (kind of like the upper cirrus today).. I'd bypass the BXP stuff if you have the budget.. you can always resell one of these and cash out - can't say the same about a millenium bxp

=======================

I do know where there's a Carvin Bunny with 1 hour of playing time in the $700 range.. in a case with hang tags and carvin receipt (no it's not mine)

Hmmmm, that TL-5 sounds like a good one to research. So far I read a lot of good things about it.
I know most would tell a beginner (me)...man, don't put the cart before the horse.

Spend more time on practice and less time on spending money.

Good advise, but I like to own good stuff to learn on.

When I first started playing drums I had a crappy Yamaha stage custom kit. I had it 4 months and bought Tamas top of the line Starclassics.

Not sorry I did. They sound soooo good and even though I dont really "need" an 8 piece kit...it allows me more options. Especially when I develop grooves for our own original stuff.

Anyways, I dont plan on doing anything rash....just researching.

It's fun for me.
Thanks all.
