Re: Silk at the bridge...

You’re welcome. If you are playing DR lo riders the labella RX will feel similar but a little bit more flex which kinda makes them sound a little edgier. I’m playing lo riders one a bass right now as well as labella so it’s fresh in my brain. They both are nice strings but I notice the labella are a little bit better for my playing. I do really like DR fat beams. I think they are the best DR string of the bunch just because I like the easy access to growly fat tone they have. To me Dunlop signature series and labella rx are the closest to Dr fat beams just because they sound growly compared to other steels that emphasize more highs and sound more clicky vs a high mid type bite. It seems to make my tone have more presence. I’ve been through almost every steel string on the market. lol
I'm using Pure Blues. I used Lo Riders when I first started. I guess my taste in tone changed a bit and I'm nit beating the life out of a Squireanymore either. "The most expensive thing on the basscis the strings..."

La Bella's are on the way, and I figured I'd do an ear test, so I got a set of DR flats coming too.

This whole thing got me thinking about ground wounds fir another bass I have but my wife will murder me if another pack shows up in.the mail.

The 3-point bridge on the Casady Bass is an arcane thing. They could have easily redesigned it to make the path from ball-end to saddle longer without any issues on that bass and others that use it without the string-through path. You can slide a bolt over each string to the ball-end to pull the silks behind the saddle or buy something like this "Mod Bar" product and use whatever strings you want: Pardon Our Interruption...

I bought one of these many years ago for my Jack Casady and it works great. But as you suggested, you can just add a small nut or other kind of spacer at the end of any string that needs it. No need to restrict oneself to silk-less strings.

I think nickel labella rx will have much in common with pure blues. It’ll come down to feel more than anything. The steels are definitely similar. She should be happy you’re binging strings and not basses. You can buy 10 sets of strings cheaper than 1 mid shelf new bass.
I haveva nasty habit of buying junky basses abd putting better electronics in them. I'm the dude with a Bronco bass withn the crap tuners/bridge and a Pitbull put in. Used to drive my tech and my wife nuts.

If she complains just buy her something she likes and tell her that you think of her too. Lol I never understood female logic with these things unless it’s bankrupting the house or cluttering it to the point of needing to build another house to live in because the house is covered with your hobbies it’s just stupid to discourage your partner like that. If my wife or girlfriend wants to have butterflies and unicorns all over the place I don’t really care. I don’t even get upset by a bathroom filled to the gills with a department store worth of hair and makeup products and every soap known to humanity. lol whatever they’re into.
