Re-Stringing

About ten years ago, someone once told me that after re-stringing, it helps the life of the strings to just let the bass (or guitar) sit for about 24 hours, without being played.

Sometimes I'm very gingerly and gentle with my (new) strings, and other times, I beat the heck out of them so I can get them to hold a tune immediately.

As it stands, I could care less about how much longevity to shoot for, as I time my batter changes/ string changes / audiologist visits / dental appointments, all on the exact same 6 month intervals...
