Real difference between MIM and MIA

How many "pros" play Mexican basses? Even those who have signature Mexican basses don't usually play Mexican basses

Esperanza Spalding plays her black Mexican fretless Jazz bass far more than she does her fretless Custom Shop Jaco signature bass. She has been touring with it on her last 2 tours including her current. She alternates between her Mexican Jazz and her custom luthier built 5 string . I haven't seen the Jaco CS in a while. You can check out her 2 Austin City Limits appearances on YouTube where she is featured playing that Mexican Jazz.

I've sat front row center in small theatre venues and witness her greatness on that Mexican Jazz for the last 2 tours. Trust me, it's the player , not the bass.

Yup, a good friend of mine (Leo Genovese - great guy, check him out at the village vanguard nyc tonight, tomorrow and sunday evening :D) is her boyfriend and we played some gigs last year in a few jazz clubs (west village, manhattan) and

edit/ damn cell phone, forget it/

I just did a side by side comparison and there are significant differences, which IMO, are worth the $530 difference:

American: Asymetrical neck heel, compound-radius (9.5”-14”) & asymmetrical “C” profile
Deluxe: 9.5”-radius

American: 18-volt onboard preamp with active three-band EQ
Deluxe: 18-volt onboard preamp

American: Stealth A-string retainer
Deluxe: None

American: Hard Shell Case
Deluxe: Deluxe Gig Bag

American: Leather Strap, 10' Cable, Strap Locks
Deluxe: None

American: Bridge - Fender Hi-Mass with Chrome-Plated Brass Saddles
Deluxe: Bridge - Fender Hi-Mass with Chrome-Plated Zinc Saddles

American: Neck - Hand-Rubbed Oil Finish with Gloss Urethane Headstock Face
Deluxe: Neck - Satin Urethane

American: Nut - Bone
Deluxe: Nut - Synthetic Bone

American: Posiflex™; Graphite Neck Support Rods
Deluxe: Standard

These are the real differences

Definitely worth the extra cost. But did you forget the tuners on the American? They're Fender's new tuners, and I have to say they're the best I've seen (and I've owned them all at one point or another).

The USA Dimension hardcase is pretty impressive, too. "Robust" is the word I'd use to describe it.

Where did THAT come from?

I don't recall anyone ever posting that here or saying it out loud. The race (or even gender) of the people who made any bass I have ever played never ever crossed my mind. I frankly don't care. I imagine most are just like me in that respect.

Cause dude, when I go around with my Ibanez Roadster and these guys turn their nose up at it because it's Japanese and it's just plain racist. You don't care who's making your bass? ok...

I left them out on purpose. No slight. I figured the extras mentioned would suffice! You are totally right about that case. When I pulled mine out of the cardboard/bubblewrap I was ear to ear smiles.
I'm glad you responded. Hip me on the difference in tuners cause I certainly do not have a clue about them. I only know the difference between open and closed but I have no idea what a reverse tuner is or what makes one better than another. Fortunately I have no problems with my basses staying in tune.

I have a MIM Stratocaster. It is a 50's surf green with the V neck. It is nicely made and when I did a side by side with my friend's real 57 Stratocaster, it's neck, headstock and body shapes (minus wear) were nearly the same. I mean within millimeters. Mine weighs about 9lbs. The real '57, about 5.5lbs. It is an enjoyable guitar to play. I've had it since '99.

All my Fenders are American made and I am happy with my decisions and I think I got my money's worth. YMMV. When it comes to resale though, USA models do return more money. Especially if you keep all the tags that originally came with it.

I don't get the roles in this drama. Who owns what?

I wrote a lot of nonsense-messages too in my live and will do in the near and not so near future... So don't take it personal, but I simply don't get what you're trying to say.

Are you drunk?

I own two USA Fender basses, one Mexi, one MIJ, one MIJ Squier, one Ibanez, one MIJ Profile bass from Australia and several other random basses.

Buzz off, will ya?
