Really high shipping cost, advice?

What about shipping a cabinet? Has anyone shipped a cab lately? I'm wondering what the rate is for something like that. I expect it to significant more than a bass but maybe not.

Not as much - unless its very large and/or heavy. Shipping costs are based on whats called "dimensional shipping weight", I don't know the metrics exactly but packages that are oversized on on one dimension (say an extra-long but not heavy box) have a higher cost factor. Best to pack things in relatively consistent size boxes. Anything over 100 inches triggers a higher level of cost, for example. I sent a 115 speaker cabinet (38 lbs boxed, insured from Colorado to upper NY state) for $64 a few months back. When I sell something like that, I usually list it with buyer and seller splitting the cost, and factor that into my price.

Thanks to this thread I actually checked Pirate Ship before sending off the bass I just sold (see post 37). Got UPS with insurance for $88 instead of 162 from USPS (with their "enhanced click n ship" discount). Refunded the difference to my buyer.

I’ve been using it for about 3 years, they beat UPS and USPS prices every single time.

I signed up and tried using it today for an international shipment. Wasn't any cheaper. I guess this is better for just domestic shipments.

I've shipped many basses to Brazil, Canada and other countries and the rates was a lot better.

The shipping price is very reasonable, especially for one of the longest distances an item can be shipped in the contiguous U.S.A.

You already said it's your responsibility to know that, and that's basically where the analysis of the situation ends. There is no "moving forward" from that, other than paying the price for your mistake, or admitting your mistake and apologizing to the seller, and asking them to give you a cancelation out of the goodness of their heart.

It wouldn't have been "passive aggressive" to cancel the purchase. It would have been sleazy, immature, and infuriating.

Next time you want to be condescending and angry for no reason please erase your comment before you even post it.

I think it depends on the size of the parcel. For bulkier packages like bass guitars there probably is a significant discount but for smaller stuff there isn't. This was a package going to Canada.
