I'v had this bass for a roughly two years now. Its been working fine until recently, when i went to a gig and plugged in to the headline's bass rig. It was really really quite, you could still hear it but it was so very quite that my guitarist decided to crank up the amp when i wasn't looking and subsiquently blew one of the cabs! yeah, thanks for that.......guess who took the blame......

Anyway, we had all this fuss with the headline band's bassist comming over and checking the amp, speaker cables, cabs etc and then finally tried a different bass. And suprise suprise it was my bass that was at fault! I'v sinced tried the bass on other amps and the same thing happened, it still works, but is really quite and only by turning the amp up quite full can you hear it!

So whats the problem?! I'v had a look at the wireing and everything seems to be attached? Ay ideas anyone? I'm planning on flogging the bass soon as I rarely use it and only at home! But i can hardly sell it in its current condition.

help please!!!!

It's obviously an electronics problem. Does the condition change, based on what pickup combo is being used? Is there any hum in your tone? Is there a severe lack of low-end? Is it a Gibson or Epiphone?

Hey.... I know, I'll get rid of a bass before I have someone competent check out the electronics and find out it's a 5 dollar potentiometer or a 2 dollar capacitor that went bad...or maybe an input jack...:hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm:

I bet dollar to donuts it's a pot or jack, seeing it's a 2 pickup bass and the thing on the whole is quieter.

Is the bass Gibson or Epiphone? The best thing I did with my Epiphone was replace the tone pot with a 250k pot witha a 0.047 Orange drop cap, and then put in a set of SSB-4 pickups (basslines). Oh yeah, also a Graphtech nut and shimmed the neck. I guess thats more than one thing, but hey, it worked and the bass now sounds sweet. A good set of D'addario strings (pro steel) helps allot too!
