Decided I needed a project five stringer. I have two 4 stringers, a slightly modified Yamaha BB424 and a Squier P Bass on which the only original unmodified part is its screws. On my usual trolls of the bay of much evil DEFINITELY NOT LOOKING ANOTHER SQUIER. I did not want something quite as bad as that. Found and purchased an Ibanez Gio 205 in good order. I was fully expecting to have to shield the cXXp out of it and other work with it being such a cheap bass. Anyway it arrived yesterday, on plug in it is totally silent brilliant shielding tho cheaply done with aluminium tape and conductive paint. The pots are tiny but completely crackle free. Guitar even sounds and plays pretty good too. So my intention is still to mod this wee Bass but the shielding will be left alone. Soooo I have ordered a set of Rotosound flatwounds and a 3 band preamp to replace the Phat 2 amp (basic up and down) already fitted. The preamp comes with the larger pots but I might replace these with CTS ones as on my ex Squier. On inspection of the control cavity there appears to be enough room for an extra pot ( currently 4 will be 5 ) and new preamp. Has anyone done this mod on an Ibanez ? Just curious.
