Reaper will NOT copy selected area of items

I tried Reaper and had to give up on it because I simply could not figure out the user interface regardless of how many help articles I read or videos I watched. It just didn't behave the way described, I could not even get it to do the simplest editing tasks. Worst UI ever.

I'm a fan of Reaper from a value perspective, but the learning curve can be fairly steep. Nothing in Reaper was intuitive for me. I remember seeing a youtube video of a some artists and producers and their thoughts on various DAWs. One of them politely shared his dislike of reaper because, paraphrasing, everything is backwards compared to other DAWs.

I spent hours, days, and weeks in the doc and on youtube just trying to figure out the basics, and I still couldn't figure out how to do basic things like select a section of music and copy or repeat it. I would follow the videos click for click and not get the same results. Infuriating. And their insistence on using their own language and uncommon terms to describe the interface only confused and complicates things. While I admire the level of function Repaer promises, it's unusable to me, just not worth the learning curve (which is more like a 100' smooth vertical wall).
