Recent string change caused weird tone to low e

I recently change my strings on my bass and I noticed my low e has a weird tone. First it has some fretbuzz. My action is rather low but it never did this with my old strings. But it has a weird warbly/flanger like effect to it. I have no idea why this is.

Were both sets the same brand? Were they different gauges?

I assume they were different brands but this is the first time I've changed the strings and i bought the bass used

Think the new ones are a smaller gauge

Sounds like your string might be twisted. Try loosening it enough to allow the string to rotate to an "untwisted" position. Give it a couple shakes to help it out. Then retune.

Should i loosen it until its about to come off?

After loosening to remove any twist, tune up 1/2 way and press down on either side of the saddle to give a good "witness point".

Well, just loosen it enough that the ball end can rotate freely to correct any twist.
