I've come to learn that when recording the band live, more drum mics = more bleed. I want to cut down to just three: kick, snare, and a single overhead.
Do you have a favorite overhead mic for recording drums while the band is going?
I've been using an SM57, just wondering if there's anything better.
Reducing bleed is a major goal, as is picking up the toms.
All else being equal, I'd prefer dynamic over condenser to avoid fiddling with phantom power. Everything else onstage is dynamic.
Not too worried about the cymbals, they come through everywhere
Thanks for your ideas!
