not sure of your budget, I got Sennheiser HD202s pretty cheap, around $40 I think??
Very good quality,not tiring to wear, fairly flat response. If you want a bit of bass boost,try the HD201s, .
I refuse to pay $300 for these new fangled brands,Sennheiser's been making great phones for decades.

The 80 Ohm Version of the Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro. It's not identical to the 250 and 32 ohm model and has a bit of harder membranes for low frequencies and high sound pressure levels.
Best bet for a good discussion is to read through some of the good threads that already exist within the recording forum

About 6 months ago I picked up a set of Sennheiser HDR 170. They are wireless and I love them. Got tired of that additional cable everytime I wanted to swap an instrument while recording with cans on. Getting it completely tangled with the instrument cable or rolling over it with my office chair, no more. Also they work pretty much thru the whole house so I can play some tunes or a podcast and go downstairs and make food or do laundry or whatever.
As for audio quality they sound great to me there are options for bass boost, surround etc can turn it on or off. The only con Ive found is that the buttons on the actual cans are very close together so you have to take them off to see what your pressing but no biggie I seldom mute or adjust volume its pretty much set and leave it.

sony mdr v6 headphones are really neutral and you can sometimes find them on sale for $49.99, i don't buy more expensive studio headphones since my last pair got stolen by some disgruntled jerk student
I've never been a huge fan of high end headphones. About a year ago, while I was buying sticks for my drummer....I saw a pair of Vic Firth Isolation headphones. Basically they're for drummers to bang away on their drums while listening to a click track or the tracks to a song. I think they sound fine. I wear them when I track with my drummer. When I'm not wearing them, he is. When he's not wearing them, my guitarist is. What they lack in articulation, they more than make up for it in the isolation of extraneous noise. $70.
