Recommend me a laptop!

Lenovo makes good laptops (this is formerly IBM...they were bought out by Lenovo and the laptops are now made under that name). They are consistently rated very highly by PC Magazine (who are pretty frank in their reviews).

Having said that though I think the Lenovos can tend to be a bit pricey. PC Mag rated the Dell E1505 very highly and I think those are under $800.

intresting... i havent personally heard much positive about them yet but ill be on a look out for it now... i still however would not recommand getting it because who wants to be a ginnipig... :)

Like I said in my other posts, stop spreading how good Macs are. They are good, so what? We are know there are Macs, no need to remind us. We all know the Mac user memorized BS speech about how great Macs are, and to be honest, most people don't care. And we still use PC even IF your Macs are so great.
It's not like a new custom-bass maker nobody's ever heard of, we all know there are Macs and how you think they are great. Put yourself in the position of PC users, we think PCs are better too. Do we tell all you Mac users to get a PC? No.

the OP is asking for recommendations on a good laptop. and those who have had good experiences with their macs are giving out their input and are recommending macs because of those experiences. in the scope of this thread mac users are entitled to spread how good macs are whether you like it or not.

we get it, you don't like macs, but last i checked you're not the one asking for suggestions in this thread.

I'll keep this post non-Mac-related to appease AGP... :D

There are only a few companies in the world who make all the world's laptop components. For instance, the laptops from Acer, Toshiba, Fujitsu/Siemens, HP, etc are all basically white-box laptops that the individual companies badge up, so, if you buy one of these laptops, it'll be basically the same as those from those other builders with a few minor differences (possibly a different brand of hard drive, etc). Even the Sony Vaio range are stock components from the same builders, just in Sony's own custom cases. But Lenovo and Dell make their own hardware, for what that's worth.

If it was me (and I absolutely was not allowed to choose a Mac!), I'd go for either a Toshiba Satellite P100 (most powerful, proper desktop replacement) or a Dell Inspiron 6600 (best value for money).

It seems to me today is a day i really don't understand a lot of things... Are you serious? You are upset that when someone asked what laptop to buy someone suggested looking into a "mac"?

The thread said recommend me a lap top, I merely suggested a Macbook. It is a feasible recommendation. If you are a musician ( GarageBand rules) and you are going to spend a bundle on a laptop (which you will regardless) why not spend a little more and have the best? It will change your life, it did mine. That being said, I know nothing about PCs, other than Dells are suppose to be really good. They can't run Garageband though.:bassist:

after i lost my dell in a fire,

i went mac! and never looked back. nevermind the macOS is pretty nice, i love the fact that i can run windows on it, too. and i love the fact i can stop by the "genius bar" at my local mac store for help. but be careful that some genius people wont know how to deal w/ windows on a macbook. best to find a smaller mom&pop mac shop like techserve here in NYC who really know.
