recommend me a string for low D

When i tune my bass in DADG the low D string feels like jello... it feels very loose and when i hammer on (even light hamer ons) i get a very unwelcoming 'clank' noise from the string hitting the fretboard.

suggestions?

Anything with a hexagonal core - as opposed to a round core. A hex core gives the string more tension.

Alternatively, you could try going to the next heavier gauge - at least for the "E" string - and see if that does it for you...
