so I'm really a rocker at heart, and because of that, I haven't listened to much jazz. But since my lesson teacher is a huge jazz enthusiast, can anyone recommend me some good jazz to listen to?

i'd prefer electric so that I could hear it better, but pretty much anything.
i'm learning the basics of walking right now so any tunes with good walking lines would be great.

Oh... if you're looking for electric you're probably gonna want to look for some jazz fusion then. The majority of jazz came out before the 70's (at least to my knowledge, and if i'm throwing out false information somebody squash me down,) and in the jazz scene, even today, it's upright only.
Listen to as much Mingus as you can get your hands on... Mingus Ah Um, Live at the Bohemia, East Coasting are all great albums.
John Coltrane - Lush Life is a hell of an album - has some incredible bass work. Check out Miles, Dizzy, Django Reinhardt, David Grisman. There are hundreds more that you need to know...gotta start somewhere.

But if you're learning walking, you're gonna want to listen to the classics, like Miles Davis, Mingus, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, etc... There's some great walking going on in the recordings by those guys.
Jean-Luc Ponty for sure. The all time best is Enigmatic Ocean but all of them are great (excluding the couple that it's pretty much just JLP and no-one else.)
If you're interested in big band/swing music, I would definitely check out some Count Basie and Duke Eliington recordings before Glenn Miller.
Get your hands on all the John Mclaughlin stuff you can, especially from 1980 onward. The guy is a ledge, and for a good reason!

The guy is a master on both electric and upright. Any one of his CD will be awsome, but I prefer his first few like his first self titled CD, On the Corner, or Sketchbook.

Plays upright and some electric. Hi first solo CD (I think) is Number Two Express. The man sounds like he has been playing for fifty years. I think he was around 20 years old when he recorded it.
