so ive played around with multi effects units and all that. and i know, sort of, what im looking for now.

so far, id like a big muff for distortion.
but what kind is best for bass use?

also id like to get a q-tron.
but should i get the regular, or the micro, or mini?

and finally delay. i think im set on the line 6 model, but letme know if i shouldnt be.

and can someone please recommend a good compressor?
rackmount if possible

I've heard the Little Big Muff is the best Muff for bass use.

Also, I've heard of volume spike issues with the larger two Q-Trons--do a search on this board and read some reviews, but I think the Nano would be your best bet.

I've heard the Little Big Muff is the best Muff for bass use.

If a warmer fuzz tone is your thing, go for it - it's what I use!

For harsher tones, try out the Russian Big Muff.

All of the Muffs are generally great on bass. It's the vintage ones that can be finicky.

For the Big Muff, I prefer a USA Reissue, but others prefer other things. All effects are a matter of taste.

Any Q-tron would be good, depends on the exact features you're looking for.

As far as delays, I ended up looking at Line6, and pretty much came down to buying a Boss DD-6. A great delay as well.

does the dd6 have the option for an external tap tempo footswitch?

i like the idea of having an external one, as opposed to having to hold down the pedal for some amount of time to get the tap tempo to kick in.
also ive heard alot of good about the line 6 delay.
anyone have anything bad to say about it?

Which Line 6 delay pedal are you looking at?

If it's the Echo Park, then go ahead. It's a great, versatile delay pedal. However! If you're looking at the DL-4, you should reconsider. My guitarist bought the Line 6 DL-4 when I got the Boss DD-20. I payed $50 less and have used my pedal way more. The big difference between the two - the same reason why I chose Boss - is the reliability of the Line 6's construction.


The Line 6 WILL break. I know a guy (Rob Crow of Pinback) that bought the DL-4 6 times. He now knows a guy that fixes them as they break. The actual metal pegs that you stomp on are attached to the main board, not the pedal's from. So the more you use your pedal, the more you stomp on your stomp box, the more it breaks. You're in essence stomping the pedal through itself.

The features you lose in buying the Boss can be remedied by getting the Echo Park. The only thing you really lose is the Auto Volume delay. I also prefer the Line 6's reverse delay. But the Boss has more memory to store settings (4/5 compared to Line 6's 3), Warp delay, twist delay, and almost double time for sound-on-sound/loop.

So, Echo Park is a go. DL-4 is a no-no.

Oh, and as far as rackmount compressors, Mr. Reliable can probably give you suggestions until you're blue in the face, but I have a list too:
