Recommendation for replacement speaker?

Hi all - lurker who is a first-time poster. After many years of inactivity I am getting back into playing again. Still have my 59 P-bass; put new strings on it the other day, plugged it into my Carvin amp and discovered that the speaker was blown (my sons had been messing with the amp at some point in the last few years so I think I know where that came from!)

Anyway, I am way out of the loop on equipment these days so I am looking for a recommendation for a speaker replacement (single 15"). Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks!

Need to know wattage of amp and size of the box, but I can say that one of the Kappalite 3015, Deltalite 2515, or basslite 2515 drivers would be an upgrade, almost without exception. One of the three, depending on your box size and wattage needs.

Carvin's neo 15 is pretty darned expensive for what it is.

Call Carvin and get the correct speaker for your amp.

What if it's a twenty year old Carvin? Or even ten years old???
As often as Carvin changes components in their cabs, I'd bet there isn't a stock replacement. Remember, Carvin was (and still really is) a budget based mail order company, so most products were built using the most cost effective components available at the time.

Granted, a driver whose T/S parameters are matched with the cab's interior volume and tuning, would be ideal, but finding the same speaker used long ago might be impossible. I have an early eighties Carvin 115 cab that was sold new with an optional JBL K140 upgrade. No idea what the stock speaker was, but I've loaded it, at different times, with an E 140, a K 140, and an EVM 15B. It's an average sized, front ported box that sounds good (although different) with any of the above drivers.

From all accounts, the Kappalite 3015 seems to be a very adaptable driver for commonly sized and tuned enclosures.

bherman; If you can supply model #, pics, & internal dimensions, it would probably help.
