Recommendations for a 6 string?

You mentioned warm and Warwick in the same sentence. As far as Sixer's go, I loved the tone of my Thumb 6 Neck Through. Classic Thumb tone, and piano like sustain. Great fingering tone, but couldn't quite get a good slap tone out of it. The spacing was also a little narrow for my taste for slapping, but again, this was a fingering monster! Guess that's why the Fenders still got play time. It's a great bass, great build, great components. Sorry, can't help you on the Skjold.

Wow, did I come across the right thread!!
Kernel, I used to own that Skjold 6 that's on ebay. It's a killer bass - very versatile and plays great. I told Pete I wanted an all-around tone, not one that "paints me in a corner" tonally. It will do the warm thing, but also can do the punchy driving thing too. If you're looking for a grindy, midrange-heavy, grunge machine, this is not your baby. But if you're looking for a sophisticated, versatile bass, this is a great choice.

I have my own opinions on the guy's pricing, but the bass itself is a killer!

Definatley, I've got one, very nice bass and excellent value. Maybe a little more modern and less growly than a warwick but the electronics and eq are a pretty versatile package. I can get some pretty rich and warm tones out of the neck pickup in particular. Here's a couple of shots of mine Vic took before he sold it to me :smug::

The best playing and sounding 6 that I've played is the Roscoe. I never even wanted to play a 6 until I played one. You can find great used ones for around $1800.

Link Removed has my old 6-string FBB for sale. That is a great sounding bass. Nordie DC's with a Bart 3-band preamp. I just re-strung it with fodera diamonds a few weeks before I sold it. Great bass. Not sure how much he is selling it for, but I'm sure it's not that bad.

Mark makes some amazing basses. After you check the website, give him a call, he is really a cool guy and will work with you on what you won't, and his price is not that bad either.

I played his fretted and fretless 6er and it was fenomenal..
