Recommendations for a Speakon to 1/4 inch cable

Rookie question, but I'm setting up a new rig that is going to consist of a Mesa D800+ head and a pre-Fender SWR Goliath Sr. 6 x 10 cabinet. The Mesa head has Speakon connectors, but the SWR cab only has the old 1/4 inch input. I need to get a cable for this set up and was wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for one that will work. Many thanks.

I would take one of your existing quality 1/4" speaker cables and just cut one end off and install an authentic Neutrik SpeakOn end. Very easy to do and much less expensive assuming you already have a 1/4" speaker cable.

Here's a good option (5 foot is plenty), guaranteed genuine Neutrik SpeakOn plug too:

Even if you can't solder you can still install a Neutrik SpeakON plug on any speaker cable.
IF you can solder, buy the correct plugs, some Mogami wire, & get to work.

I would recommend installing one of these on the cab, wiring it in parallel with one of the existing jacks and getting a dual speakon cable. All things being equal, Speakon jacks are the safest choice for higher wattage amps.

This is what I did for my Series I Acme B2 cabinets. I really don’t think that I would risk a nice powerful amp into an obsolete connector that won’t handle the amps power safely.

Edit: It really is a simple modification.

I would recommend this too (I did it with 2 of my cabs). Much better!

Or this, if you can't put the jack on the jack plate. All you have to do is drill a 1" hole in the cab and secure it with 4 short wood screws.

Speak-on to speak-on are the best connections. You can do the drill/cut/mods, or until you have the courage to do it yourself (or buy another cab), simply purchase...
1/4" to Speak-on adapters, push-on pull-off.
About $15/pair.
ALWAYS use speaker cables and NOT instrument cables for connecting amps to cabs.
Had a D800+ and a GK MB800 and used a friends cab a couple of times at rehearsals, works fine.
Note for others: Unless the manufacturer specifically states that their "1/4 inch to Speak-on" jack is labeled "dual use" it is NOT. Learned the hard way once...once. It's a plastic hole to nowhere...no matter how hard you push

Ditto on neutrik ends. Most reputable music sources will carry Speakon to 1/4 Neutrik. And ditto on just having the speakon jack installed.
BTW that sounds like a killer rig, I love the D800+!

I got one of these when bought an amp with a speakon but one of my cabs was jack only. Now they are both speakon but I keep a couple of these adaptors in my bag.

Wow, that's a crazy expensive price for cable and ends.

I put together a cord with speakon to banana connectors because my amp was old and my cab was new. For the 12-ga. wire I used along with the two ends, I spent less than $20. And that was with the best connectors and the most expensive cable they had (bought 4-feet of cable). I run an 800-watt amp to the one speaker cab. I could have used 14-ga wire but overcompensated just to be safe.

Also, I strongly recommend using genuine Neutrik branded plugs as we have seen a lot of defective off-shore SpeakOn plugs. Some look identical to the real thing on the outside but are different internally, or the dimensional tolerances are poor.

This has caused a lot of troubleshooting frustration where a player is "positive" an amp is defective and then gets even more frustrated when we have them troubleshoot to discover that there's nothing at all wrong with the amp (or speaker).

If it's not guaranteed to be genuine Neutrik, it's almost certainly not. The real part is very, very good in comparison to all of the copies I have examined.
