Recommendations for active DI box: SansAmp?

Well, I had been using my guitar RP box for rehearsals and performances, and it just died today. :rollno:

So I'm thinking of getting a SansAmp for an active DI out with some nice tones. I have a PA at home for practice as well, and go DI out when I play at church.

I've heard good things about SansAmp over the years, so I might check out the Bass Driver DI or the VT Bass Character. I don't need anything fancy, but could imagine having a few tone options would be nice, so that's why I'm think more than just a simple DI box.

Any tips appreciated!

I have 3 that I use. An Avalon U5, a Radial BassBone & an Electro Harmonix Bass Metaphors. The Avalon($585) is truly wonderful but rather large to carry to every gig. I use it mainly for recording. If I'm using two basses live I will use the Radial BassBone(about $250). It allows me to switch back & forth without unplugging or changing volume knobs & sends a sweet signal to the p.a. If it's a one bass gig I use the Bass Metaphors box(amazingly only $125). It has a superb DI sound, compression, distortion, EQ & both XLR & phone jack outputs.

The programmable BDDI lets you save three presets ($209). The BDDI Deluxe has two inputs (for two diff basses). Can save three presets for each, or six presets for one bass. ($269).

The VT Bass (also tech 21) is also very popular. Current model has no xlr out, but a new one will be released in a few months.

Search the effects forum, lots of discussion about all the Tech 21 stuff, MXR M80+, Radial, etc.

What I don't get is why the programmable SansAmp Bass DI is almost the same cost as the non-programmable. If the other features are comparable, I would have thought the programmable would be much more expensive.

Don't ask questions, just fork up the extra $10 and enjoy your presets!!

Really the only difference is the Programmable adds two stomps, two LED's, and the circuitry to make it work. AND/BUT the regular has the parallel 1/4" (Dry) out, whereas the Programmable does not.
