Recommendations for easy looper app/software (Mac)?

I have been searching the forums for ideas, but not finding much.

I am a home-only player and a complete noob with effects, but using a looper seems like fun. So before diving into this area, I wanted a cheap/free looper app on my Macbook that I could play around and get familiar with - then decide if I wanted a proper looper, and what aspects I'd prefer.

I have amps, but I mostly play by plugging into my audio interface with headphones. If I want effects, I run things through GarageBand.

I have tried two Looper apps so far. The first was a simple one-click looper, but it crashed every time I ran it. The second was an app called Continuous Looper, but was too complex. I don't want to have to learn heaps before starting. Plug-and-play for beginners is all I want for now.

Silly question perhaps, but why not record your own loops in garageband if you're using that already? Seems the most easiest method I can think of.
Track 1: kliktrack (if you want)
track 2: record loop and extend (copy) it as long as needed (then double that to be sure. you can remove what you didn't use later). You can also cycle it if you prefer. I never used that feature so I'm not entirely sure what you can and can't do with it, but it seems worth experimenting with in your case.
track 3: Dub 1,
track 4: Dub 2.
etc etc.
In this video you can see a basic breakdown of how to do basic loop recording. They're using a VST in the example, but you can use any (real) instrument you have access to. This page has some extra information you may find useful.

If you've got your mind set on a separate app outside garageband: What are you hoping a separate looper app/plugin will do for you that garageband can't do?

I've done some looping stuff with GarageBand. I guess I want something simple to just play around with, without making a project. Something like a ditto pedal, but in a digital app. Something I can just noodle around with and hit go/stop on a whim.

Kinda feeling inspired by some of the Cici Von Strangelove improv stuff. Think I could have fun trying something like that. But don't want to pay for anything til I'm confident I'm not going to totally suck at it.

Loopy Pro looks good, but still more advanced than I'd like.

Maybe I'm wishing for something that don't exist.

Do you have an iPhone/iPad? I'm using Loopy HD (predecessor of Loopy Pro) on my iPhone and it's one of the best looper IMHO. It's $6-7$ and can run on Apple Silicon Mac (but I had some issues with input/output config and no time to have a look).

Loopy HD is pretty incredible for the price. I'm using an IK Multimedia Axe I/O One usb-c audio interface and connected a 2-button footswitch (next track, mute/record track, clear track and play/stop). It's so simple to use and so powerful with 6/9/12-track (loops).

There's ALOOPER in the Mac App Store. Just drag and drop the mp3, wav, aiff, ogg file onto the app and then define a region to loop. That's all it does.

Online version as well - ALOOPER
